At least three times today, I’ve heard news media say that “Treasury Secretary Arne Duncan” has declared his support for gay marriage.

Not to be nit-picky, but did I miss something? I seriously just replayed this one clip over and over and that’s what I keep hearing.

Will someone please correct this? And if that’s not what they’re saying, will someone please correct my hearing?

North Carolina banned gay marriage

and

Biden, Obama, and Duncan have all voiced their support for gay marriage.

Hopefully NC will change their backwards human rights violating law, but I’m not too sure that Biden, Obama, and Duncan will have convinced them that gay marriage is a human right.

neuroticnewsjunkie: People rightly flipped out across the internet last month over news that the Swedish parliament would not be repealing a barbaric law that forces sterilization on trans people seeking to change their gender on legal documents. While it’s despicable that Swedish politicians are opposing the law change, much of the outrage, no doubt, occurred because people previously didn’t realize that a forced sterilization law existed in Sweden.  Considering how shocking people find Sweden’s law, it’s worth pointing out the country is 1 of 17 in Europe (shown in red) that require trans people to have a surgical procedure that results in sterilization before legal gender change is made to their identification ID. The law is currently under review in Denmark, the Netherlands, and Portugal, and in Ireland a name change (which acknowledged gender change) was granted for one woman after a legal challenge that went to the high courts, but no laws exist on the matter. They blame clothes, books, teachers, music, the media, and so forth when they find out that their child is gay. The awesome thing is that they still turned out to have a wonderful life together. :’D It should happen more often :)

I don’t think I’m different than a lot of Americans, in that when you grow up, there’s a negative prejudice built against gays. You’re just bombarded by it. And then, in my life, I’ve come to find out that I have friends who are gay. And it makes me feel horrible that I would in any way potentially add to discrimination against them. Every single candidate talks about equality, freedom, liberty: Doesn’t that all start with a person’s right to conduct their own lives as they see fit?
